Neo Nomad visa (B12-1) for IT specialists
Kazakhstan's digital nomad visa for people who work remotely for clients or employers abroad and earn at least $3,000 a month from outside the country. It isn't limited to IT, but it suits developers, designers and other remote specialists. We check eligibility and prepare the document pack; you apply in person at a Kazakh consulate.

Common questions
Does Kazakhstan have a digital nomad visa?
Yes. The Neo Nomad visa (B12-1) has been issued since 17 November 2024 to foreigners who work remotely for clients or employers abroad. It is a multiple-entry visa for up to one year.
What are the requirements?
Foreign income of at least $3,000 a month confirmed by 6 months of bank statements, medical insurance, a criminal record certificate and a tax return from your country of residence. You apply in person at a Kazakh foreign mission.
Can I work for a Kazakh company on this visa?
No. The Neo Nomad visa doesn't allow work for Kazakh employers. If you'll be employed by an Astana Hub participant, its employees can get a work visa for up to 5 years instead.
I can enter visa-free. Do I need it?
Citizens of Russia and other EAEU countries can stay visa-free for 90 days in any 180; Chinese citizens for up to 30 days per entry and 90 days in 180, without the right to work. The Neo Nomad visa lets you stay up to a year while working remotely.
Can the visa be extended?
Sources disagree on whether a second year is possible, so plan on one year and check the rules before it runs out. We don't promise an extension.
Do digital nomads pay tax in Kazakhstan?
It depends on how long you stay and where your income comes from, and the official explanations still refer to the old Tax Code. We look at your case before you apply rather than promise a zero-tax answer.
Is there another route for IT specialists?
Since March 2025 Astana Hub has run a Digital Nomad Residency pilot: a simplified residence permit for IT specialists, applied for through the Hub with a 45-day review. Check that it still accepts applications when you plan; we don't arrange residence permits.
